Who can apply?
Artists from abroad can apply though our partner institutions, whos application terms and conditionc can vary. To check which of our partner institution is close to your home country, please see the list below.

Where will I stay during the residency?
The Budapest Gallery oversees three studio apartements (one shared and one separated one) in the middle of the seventh district of Budapest, in the very city center. The apartments are fully equipped, eligible for everyday life, each having a separated studio part where artist can work.

Is there an opportunity to present my work at the end of my residency?
We invite artists to present their works in the frames of an open studio in the studio apartment, a pop-up exhibition in the café and exhibition space nearby or other possibilities that we can start working on during their residency.

What kind of work equipment can the Budapest Gallery provide?
The Budapest Gallery can provide basic tools like screwdriver, hammer, etc., and occasionally smaller electronic equipments such as headphones, speaker, projector. Please always let us what you would need in advance.

Can I have a guest during my stay?
All the residency apartments have double beds, so you can have a guest for a few days or during your whole stay.

Can I travel with children?
The residency apartments are initially not suitable for young children, but it is not forbidden. If you decide to bring your child/children, please let us know so we can make your stay more comfortable.

Can I bring my pet?
As the Budapest Gallery doesn’t own the apartments, it doesn’t have the right to allow pets.

Can artists with disabilities participate the residency program?
Unfortunately the studio apartments are not suitable. They are based in an classic old monument building that is very typical in Budapest, however, these buildings still lack of any comfort and adjustment of the 21st century.

When can I arrive? When can I leave?
As you will get the keys and the apartment showed from our colleague, please plan your arrival for a weekday between 9-17h (9-16h on Fridays). Due to maintenance and cleaning, you can come not earlier than the second weekday of the month.
You can leave any time you would like to until the last day of your residency period. If you’d like to leave significantly earlier, please let the Budapest Gallery’s staff know.
